Windermere Real Estate and the University of Washington are excited to host the 32nd annual 2018 Windermere Cup regatta, which will take place on Saturday, May 5 on the Montlake Cut. This year’s competition will be especially fierce with the national champion University of Washington women’s team taking on the women’s crew from the Dutch National Rowing Team. The Dutch placed among the top performers at the World Championships. The men’s race should be equally exciting with men from the University of Washington, Oxford Brookes University, and the University of British Columbia. These teams’ times were within a fraction of a second of each other in recent competitions.
The regatta is held as part of Seattle’s Opening Day of Boating Season and is followed by the Seattle Yacht Club’s Opening Day Boat Parade. This year’s regatta will include 22 races featuring athletes ages 14-70. More than 800 athletes earn a spot to compete in this prestigious event, which culminates with the women’s and men’s Windermere Cup races. Fans are invited to join the regatta champions for an awards ceremony and presentation of the Windermere Cup Trophy on the stage located on the NW side of the Montlake Cut, near the finish line, after the races, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Admission to the event is free. Viewing is available on the shores of the Montlake Cut, or by boats anchored to a log boom in Lake Washington.
